We use Soy!

Frequently Asked Questions

An antiseptic lotion applied to cleanse the area first. If hard wax is used a dusting of powder will be used to dry before applying the wax.

I use a soy-based botanical hair remover that comes with a non-beeswax strip formula, perfect to achieve the right moisturization of the skin thanks to the properties from soy bean oil, palm oil, and tamanu oil. Soy promises natural anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and potent healing benefits for the skin. Ideal for sensitive skins and very effective on fine to coarse hair.  If the skin is extremely dry a Pre & Post Depilatory Oil maybe lightly applied.

Either it is soft wax or soy-based botanical is being used, the warm wax will be spread on the hairs in a thin layer. A cloth strip (muslin or pellon) is then applied to the area, and rubbed in the direction of hair growth. The strip is then pulled quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth while the skin is held taut with the other hand.

If hard wax is being used, a thicker amount of warm wax is applied and allowed to cool. No cloth strip is applied. One edge of the cooled wax is grasped and pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth.

If waxing for a special event try coming in 2 to 3 times prior to event for smoothest, most flawless skin.

Try your best to relax your body. Take a deep breath, it will help clear your mind and reduce any tension before the next strip. Do not be nervous! You are in good hands. I am  very experienced with all types of hair and people of every size and ethnicity. I will guide you through the entire process and make sure you leave happy!

24 to 48 hours before your wax gently exfoliate the skin.  This removes the dead skin cells and opens up the hair follicles.

Keep the area being waxed free of any lotion or oil.  Be sure your skin is healthy - no sores, broken skin or sunburn.

Wear clothing that is breathable, loose, and comfortable.

Come back every 3-5 weeks! Waxing consistently makes your hair grow back finer, softer, and not as quickly. Also, the more time between appointments will allow the hair roots time to thicken back up and this is what causes pain when removing the hair.  Be sure to moisturize your skin. This helps keep skin healthy and helps the wax remove the hair easier. Avoid using heavily perfumed or thick lotion on the bikini area as it might cause ingrown hair.

It’s important to care for the waxed area properly after treatment to prevent ingrown hairs, breakouts, or other reactions. Exfoliation, using an exfoliating glove with a ph balanced bath gel, will help keep the skin clear. Avoid using a bar soap because it leaves a film on the body that could cause ingrown hairs.   For the face, back, and chest, use a more gentle exfoliant and an anti-breakout lotion (ask your Aesthetician about recommended products).

You may experience bumps. Don't panic! These are temporary and will fade within 72 hours.  (This is a common side effect of waxing and is a histamine reaction. You may even experience hives, tiny bumps, itching, or irritation. It's your body's natural reaction to when it thinks it's being attacked, so it's essentially a defense mechanism.)

Be sure to moisturize your skin. This helps keep skin healthy and helps the wax remove the hair easier. Avoid using heavily perfumed or thick lotion on the bikini area as it might cause ingrown hair.

Directly after waxing, stay out of the sun, avoid swimming, be careful not to over-exfoliate, avoid the sauna and hot yoga, wait a little before getting a spray tan, be selective with your skin care, take showers instead of baths, if you had an intimate area waxed skip the hookups, opt for loose clothing, and avoid intense workouts.

Exfoliating is an essential part of getting the soft, smooth skin you want. So a day or two ahead, gently buff away dry skin with a PH balanced body scrub or polish.

After, exfoliate two or three times a week to help you avoid the ingrown hairs and bumps that can come with regrowth. Dont forget the moisturizing cream.

Most people tolerate it well, and get used to the sensation after a few treatments. The level of discomfort you will feel depends on your level of pain tolerance in general, and on which area is being waxed. If you still find waxing very uncomfortable after several treatments, many estheticians offer numbing crèmes that you can purchase and apply 45 minutes prior to the service.

For women, it is generally best not to schedule waxing services just prior to or during your period, as you are more sensitive to pain at this time and will experience more discomfort.

Whether you’re new to waxing or a pro, always remember to let the hair grow out to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the skin.  Everyone's hair grows differently the typical time frame is 3-4 weeks since your last wax, or 2-3 weeks since your last shave.

If hairs are too short, the wax won’t adhere strongly enough to pull them out but if the hair is too long, it can take a couple of attempts to remove it!

Refrain from taking a shower or bath before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. Do not apply lotion to the skin before your waxing session.

Waxing should not be performed if you have particularly sensitive skin, because it can pull off a couple of layers of skin cells along with the hair. Waxing can cause tenderness and swelling. In addition, some medications will cause the skin to react badly to waxing.

Don’t wax if you’re taking:

  • Accutane (Acne medication)
  • Adapalene (Acne medication)
  • Alustra (Retin A)
  • Avage (Acne medication)
  • Avita (Retin A)
  • Azelex (Peeling agent)
  • Clindamycin
  • Differin (Acne medication)
  • Doxycycline
  • Erythromycin
  • Isotretinoin (like Accutane)
  • Madifloxicine
  • Metronidazole
  • Prednisone
  • Renova (Retin A)
  • Retin A (Acne and Anti-aging medication)
  • Tazarac (Acne medication)
  • Tazarotene (Tazorac)
  • Tetracycline
  • Tretinoin (Retin A)

USE EXTREME CAUTION:

If you are using any of the following. The following products can make your skin more sensitive. Thin, sensitive skin is more vulnerable to lifting and sensitivity during waxing.

  • Other acne medications not listed above
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic)
  • Oral Antibiotics
  • Topical Antibiotics
  • Retinol
  • Salicylic Acids
  • Any acid based products

THESE PRECAUTIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED:

  • You must wait a minimum of seven (7) days before waxing after a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion
  • No waxing if you have had a laser skin resurfacing within the past year
  • No waxing if you have had a physician administered peel within the past two (2) years
  • Women may experience extra sensitivity to waxing up to a week prior to the beginning of their period
  • No waxing on sunburned skin
  • No waxing on irritated areas

THESE FACTORS ARE KNOWN TO MAKE WAXING MORE PRONE TO “SKIN LIFTING”:

  • Taking blood-thinning medications
  • Taking drugs for autoimmune disease
  • Medications for Lupus
  • Taking prednisone or steroids
  • Psoriasis, eczema, or other chronic skin diseases
  • Recent cosmetic or reconstructive surgery
  • Recent laser skin treatment
  • Severe varicose leg veins
  • Rosacea or very sensitive skin
  • History of cold sores or fever blisters (waxing can cause a flare-up)
  • Using hydroquinone
  • Recent surgical peel, microdermabrasion or chemical peel using glycolic, alpha hydroxy, or salicylic acid, or other acid-based products

Your technician may ask you to help hold your skin in certain places—or, yes, your cheeks—so they're able to get every last inch of hair.

It's really not as uncomfortable as it might sound, but it is certainly intimate.

Don't hesitate to ask your Aesthetician for a Vajacial which provides a cooling to soothe inflammation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

You've made it through the tough part, it's all about taking extra care and caution for the next 48 hours:  Stay out of the sun, avoid swimming, be careful not to over-exfoliate, avoid the sauna and hot yoga, wait a little before getting a spray tan, be selective with your skin care, take showers instead of baths, no hookups, opt for loose clothing, and avoid intense workouts.
